·      2021 Yifan (Amber) Wang will start her independnet career (skipped postdoc training) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry and build her lab at the University of Gerogia starting from September 15, 2021. Congratulations!

·      2021 Ian Davis has successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on June 24th. Congratulations!

·      2021 Yifan (Amber) Wang has successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on April 21st. Congrats, you can add "Ph.D." after your name now.

·      2021 Yifan (Amber) Wang is recognized by the Walmsley Endowed Graduate Award with a certificate and $1,000 cash.

·      2020 Yifan (Amber) Wang (graduate student)'s work is featured by SSRL-SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in a Science Highlight article "The Making of an Enzyme-in-Action Movie."

·      2020 Yifan (Amber) Wang, and three other lab members published our first metalloenzyme movie as part of our sixth PNAS direct submission paper since the lab inception entitled "Observing 3-hydroxyanthranilate-3,4-dioxygenase in action through a crystalline lens."

·      2020 Samuel Montoya, is honored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). He is on the 2020 Honorable Mention List in the federal agency's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). What a great way to start his doctoral program!

·      2020 Romie Nguyen, received the Abrams Fellowship with a $2,000 cash award. The selection of this competitive award is based on the accomplishments of the first year and the promise for future achievements.

·      2019 Romie Nguyen, first-year graduate student, published her work in a reputable chemistry journal ACS Catalysis

·      2019 Ephrahime Traore, received the Carl Storm Underrepresented Minority Fellowship from the Gordon Research Conferences (GRC), which will provide him with financial support to attend the very popular Metals in Biology GRC conference in January 2020.

·      2019 Yifan (Amber) Wang, delivered an invited talk while Romie Nguyen presented a poster at the 2019 A. I. Scott Symposium for Biological Chemistry, College Station, TX, September 27-28, 2019.

·      2019 Fange Liu (Ph.D. 2013) has been awarded by NIGMS/NIH an ESI MIRA grant (R35, approximately $2M) to support her lab's research at Penn. This was truly a great success, especially considering her lab started just a little over one year. Congrats!

·      2019 Yifan (Amber) Wang (graduate student)'s new paper was featured as an ACS Editors' Choice article on April 29, 2019.

·      2018 Ian Davis, won a poster award with a $100 gift card at The 2018 A. I. Scott Symposium for Biological Chemistry, College Station, TX, October 19-20, 2018.

·      2018 Dr. Yu Yang was invited to deliver a short talk at The 2018 A. I. Scott Symposium for Biological Chemistry, College Station, TX, October 19-20, 2018.

·      2018 Yifan (Amber) Wang (graduate student), won the college-level graduate student poster award at the COS Research Conference (which has hundreds of poster presentations) on October 5, 2018.

·      2018 Ian Davis, won a poster award of the Department Chemistry at the COS Research Conference (which has hundreds of poster presentations) on October 5, 2018.

·      2018 Romie Nguyen, first-year graduate student, was awarded a four-year prestigious Presidential Distinguished Research Fellowship total $40,000.00.

·      2018 Fange (Kathy) Liu has been appointed, and officially started (in January 2018), her independent career as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at The University of Pennsylvania. During her graduate study in our group between 2008-2013, she was a very accomplished Ph.D. student (with 10+ publications in top-tier journals), followed with postdoctoral research at The University of Chicago.

·      2018 Ian Davis delivered an impressive talk at The 7th Texas Enzyme Mechanisms Conference, Austin, TX, January 2018.

·      2017 Kednerlin Dornevil has successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis. Congrats, you can add "Ph.D." after your name now. You're a role model and our previous lab manager. We're very prooud of you.

·      2017 Li Ma (graduate student) won a poster award at the COS Research Conference (which has hundreds of poster presentations) with a Lenovo Thinkpad computer from Dean of the College on October 6, 2017.

·      2017 Dr. Jiasong Li was invited to give a short talk (i.e., contributed talk selected from posters) at the Gordon Research Conference - Enzymes, Coenzymes & Metabolic Pathways, Waterville Valley, NH, July 16-21, 2017.

·      2016 Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Yu Yang and graduate student Ian Davis were in the spotlight of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and their publication was selected to be "Papers of the Week".

·      2016 Li Ma, first-year graduate student, was awarded a four-year prestigious Presidential Distinguished Research Fellowship total $40,000.00.

·      2016 Uyen Ha, a senior undergraduate student, published a paper in JBC and graduated with a B.S. degree and distinction.

·      2015 Ian Davis received a generous MBD travel award for attending the 2015 GRC and GRS Conferences of Enzymes, Coenzymes & Metabolic Pathways, Waterville Valley, NH, July 11-17, 2015.

·      2015 James Ross Terrell, a first-year graduate student, awarded a prestigious University Fellowship in Diagnostics and Therapeutics by the Associate Provost for Graduate Programs.

·      2015 Uyen Ha, an undergraduate student in our lab, received a competitive 2015 Molecular Basis of Disease (MBD) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship with stipend support.

·      2015 Tyler Florio, an undergraduate student at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania, received the full-board support of our Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. He will be doing summer research in our lab

·      2015 Ian Davis received the "2014 prestigious Graduate Award for Outstanding Research at the Doctoral Level," Department of Chemistry, GSU

·      2015 Ryan Gummper, second-year graduate student, won the Poster Award at the 6th Southeast Enzymology Conference, Atlanta, April 11, 2015 -- this was selected from 71 posters by a senior faculty panel.

·      2015 Ryan Gummper, a second-year graduate student, came back home from Athens (GA) with a Poster Award after giving a talk and presenting a poster at the 5th Winter School on Soft X-Rays in Macromolecular Crystallography.

·      2015 Dr. Fange Liu is invited to give a short talk (contributed talk selected from posters) at the Gordon Research Conference: Cell Growth & Proliferation, West Dover, VT, July 12-17, 2015.

·      2015 Ryan Gummper, Beibei Liu, Jing Mu, and James R. Terrell were selected by the organizers to attend RapidData 2015 at Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource, May 3 - 8, Menlo Park, CA.

·      2015 Ian Davis was invited by the ASBMB Annual Meeting organizers to give an oral presentation in the Experimental Biology Section, Boston, MA, March 28 - April 1, 2015.

·      2015 Ryan Gummper was invited to give a talk at the 5th Winter School on Soft X-Rays in Macromolecular Crystallography between March 1 - 4 in Athens, GA.

·      2014 Kednerlin Dornevil won the Advancing Science Travel Grant from the 2014 NOBCChe Organizers for a full board presentation in the NOBCChe Conference (https://www.nobcche.org/conference).

·      2014 Jiafeng Geng is a recipient of the 2014 China Scholarship Council Award (with a 6,000 USD cash award).

·      2014 Samantha L. Deegan, an outstanding REU undergraduate student from Georgia Gwinnett College, presented a terrific invited talk in the REU Summer Presentation event.

·      2014 Kednerlin Dornevil is a recipient of the 2013 Graduate Award for Outstanding Professional Service Award.

·      2014 Lu Huo received the 2013 Chair's Award of the Department of Chemistry, GSU.

·      2014 Jiafeng Geng is the recipient of the 2013 Graduate Award for Outstanding Research at the Doctoral Level.

·      2014 Shingo Esaki is a recipient of the 2013 Graduate Teaching Award (Ph.D. level)

·      2014 Jiafeng Geng is a recipient of the MBD travel award for attending the GRC Conference Enzymes, Coenzymes, Metabolic Pathways, Waterville Valley, NH, July 13-18, 2014.

·      2014 Lu Huo is a recipient of the MBD travel award for attending the 14th American Crystallographic Association Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM, May 24-28, 2014

·      2013 Jiafeng Geng is named for the 2014 William M. Suttles Doctoral Research Fellowship (with $1,500 unrestricted cash for personal use) and received a competitive Associate Vice President for Research Dissertation Award (with a $1,000 cash award).

·      2013 Fange (Kathy) Liu published our fourth PNAS direct submission paper since the lab inception entitled "Pirin is an iron-dependent redox regulator of NF-kappB."

·      2013 Jiafeng Geng published our fifth PNAS direct submission paper since the lab inception entitled "Tryptophan-mediated charge-resonance stabilization in the bis-Fe(IV) redox state of MauG."

·      2013 Jiafeng Geng won the first place poster award (with cash) in the inaugural Atlanta Area Molecular and Cellular Biophysics Symposium conducted at Emory University, GA.

·      2013 Fange (Kathy) Liu published our third PNAS direct submission paper through colloboration with the Wilmot lab entitled "Diradical intermediate within the context of tryptophan tryptophylquinone biosynthesis."

·      2103 Jiafeng Geng is a recipient of the Molecular Basis of Disease Area of Focus Seed Grant ($7,500 jointly with Ankita Sachla of Biology).

·      2013 Lu Huo, a Ph.D. student, is a recipient of the competitive Associate Vice President for Research Dissertation Award ($1,000).

·      2013 Fange Liu is a recipient of the Poster Award (with $100 cash) at the Third International Conference on Chemical and Structural Biology of Nucleic Acids and Proteins for Novel Drug Discovery, Atlanta, GA.

·      2013 Lu Huo was named the Molecular Basis of Disease Area (MBD) of Focus Research Fellow with stipend support starting August 2013 till graduation.

·      2013 Fange Liu is a recipient of the competitive Finn Wold Protein Society Travel Award for attending the 27th Annual Symposium of The Protein Society, Boston, MA

·      2103 Fange Liu is a recipient of the Ambrose H. Pendergrast Graduate Research Award from Department of Chemistry, Georgia State University.

·      2103 Fange Liu is the recipient of the Poster Award (with $100 cash) at the Tenth Annual SER-CAT Symposium, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL.

·      2012 Jiafeng Geng, a Ph.D. student, is named the Molecular Basis of Disease (MBD) Area of Focus Research Fellow with stipend support between August 2012 and 2014

·      2012 Fange Liu successfully renewed the competitive university graduate fellowship administrated by the Center for Diagnostics & Therapeutics (CDT) with stipend support starting from August 2012 till graduation.

·      2012 Fange Liu is a recipient of the Student Tavel Award from the International Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry (SBIC).

·      2012 Kednerlin Dornevil, a first-year Ph.D. student, received a competitive multi-year doctoral fellowship award (which pays his stipend from 2012 till graduation) from the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB, an organization provides education support in 16 states run by a board of governors and senators).

·      2011 Fange Liu, a Ph.D. student, is a recipient of the competitive university graduate fellowship administrated by the Center for Diagnostics & Therapeutics (CDT) with stipend support starting between August 2011 and June 2013.

·      2011 Ian Davis, a senior undergraduate student of our lab, received his second teaching assistant (TA) award.
